Landrada, mother of St. Chrodogang, archbishop of Metz, is likely his sister. His father may have been named Rodbert or, Chrodobert. He was likely the son of Thuringbert of Worms and Rheingau and grandson of Robert I of Worms and Rheingau, who died in 764. Ermengarde, wife of emperor Louis the Pious was most likely his niece.
To meet these conditions Thuringbert must have married his widowed step mother between 764 and 770
