A big thank you to everybody who recently helped pinpoint places on our site, especially thanks to Stan Driver who spent many hours locating churches. Place names are as important as People names in helping identify family histories. See Places in our Forum for further details.

Early British and European Royals wanted to prove their nobility as direct descendants of God Almighty so their wise men researched their families back to the first man, Adam. This early medieval knowledge has been adopted by some of our members, so Liz Mackinlay can trace her ancestors back to Adam & Eve (4000 B.C.), Susan Worth has researched her line back to Wlhomarc de Aske (1050) and I am trying to trace mine to Otto Aurifaber (1051).

The earliest Isle of Axholme residents we have recorded are Elswitha (852, Gainsborough), Nele de Mowbray (1146 IoA), John de Mowbray (1392 Epworth). You will also find in our tree, Julius Caeser, William the Conqueror, Robin Hood, Henry IV, Titus Oates, James Otis (American Revolutionarty) and Captain Oates of the Antarctic.
