Crowle Fair in the Market Place about 1910
Looking north along the High Street, fair stalls can be seen. I can just remember Crowle fair in the Market Place. Around 1940 it moved to a field behind the Town Hall on Johnson's Lane.

Crowle, Market Place
From Read's History published 1858.

The gas works had been established, note Crowle's one and only gas street light. Later there was a pump in the centre as well as the gas light. The view is almost the same in 2008 apart from where the base of the old market cross has been replaced.

Crown and Sceptre Public House, Staines Road, Feltham, Middlesex
A contemporary shot of this pub, which would have been a familiar and no doubt welcome sight to labourers at the Bedfont [Gun]Powder Mills, which dominated the landscape on the opposite side of the road. The mills have gone and all housing around has been redeveloped, including the home of the Rouse family in the 1850s, which the 1851 census suggests was just two doors away from the pub.
