Though Ettie remained childless, the couple adopted her nephew, John Johnson Till (known as Till), in 1880. Till Ferens separated from his wife and became estranged from his adoptive parents during the 1914–18 war.[2] Till Ferens, like Thomas, was a Liberal and stood for the Liberal Party at Gainsborough in the 1935 General Election.
