- It is useful to note that at this time the Julian calendar was in use and for the purpose of recording events in the Parish Registers the practice adopted was to record the year from Lady Day or Feast of the Annunciation (25 March) to Lady Day. Lady Day was effectively New Years Day for administrative purposes. This means that in the context of the above event it was recorded as 17 February 1714 when by our modern Gregorian calendar we would have recorded the event as occurring in the year 1715. The practice appears to have changed in 1753 with the introduction of the Gregorian calendar we know today
