- Born between 706 and 716. Despite his piety, Carloman could be ruthless towards opponents. After repeated armed revolts and rebellions in 746 he convened an assembly of the Alamanni magnates at Cannstatt and had most of them, numbering in the thousands, arrested and executed for high treason in the "Blood Court at Cannstatt". The eradicated virtually the entire tribal leadership of the Alamanni and ended the independance of the tribal duchy of Alamannia.
