Sir Walter Scott organised the momentous visit of King George IV to Scotland in 1822, the first visit to Scotland by a ruling monarch since the Act of Union of 1707. Sir Walter embraced his countrymen's patriotism by welcoming the English King on the streets of Edinburgh which were lined by kilt wearing highlanders. The event is famed for making clan-tartan wearing highly fashionable. |
