- Leppington Family History
Contribution By Ileen Waterhouse née Leppington (c1974)
I am the youngest and only living child of Charlie and Isabel Leppington. My grandparents came from England on a sailing ship and were married on the boat. They settled in Ontario and raised a family of ten. My father came west to Manitoba as a young man, there he met my mother and they were married in 1895. They farmed there, moving to the Saltcoats area in 1905. They lived in Section 4, 2 miles north of Perley School. In 1911 my dad bought Section 6, they farmed there until their death. My dad had a herd of 100 registered cattle.
There were five of us; Cyril who farmed the home place, later moving to Saltcoats; Edith married Charles Air; Harry died at 16; Millie entered nursing in Alberta, Canada, later moving to Victoria in British Columbia.
I married George Waterhouse, we farmed in the Hillerton District, later moving to Victoria in 1956.
Contribution By Melvin Leppington Jr. (c1974)
Charlie was a brother of Henry. Charlie and Mrs. Leppington lived in the Perley District for many years, first on Section 4, north of the school, then on section 6, presently owned by Leonard Tatton. In their family were Cyril, Edith, Harry, Millie and Isabel.
Cyril stayed on the farm till after the Second World War. Edith married C. Air and lived in Boakeview; Harry died when he was about 16; Millie became a nurse and moved away to BC. Isobel married George Waterhouse and moved away.
Mr and Mrs. Leppington were devoted to the farm and when they were passed away they were buried there.
Charles married Isabel Watson on 4 Dec 1895 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. [1]
