- At some time, early in his career, Thomas worked in Canada, building bridges. Later in life he continued to buy up land, build houses and rent out the houses. My mother Mary remembers going around with her cousin Joan Lee in Staveley collecting the rents. She remembers particularly on old lady dressed in black with white lace, a Mary Siddall curtseying to her when she was introduced as "Sybil's daughter".
