Hi,

I'm trying to find possible any more sibblings to my gt grandfather Samuel Shaw. Here's what I know so far. Samuel died in 1949 and going by the age on his death certificate he was born in c.1892 but I don't know where. His father was called Richard Shaw, I don't know his mothers name. I sucessfully located his grave through Barnsley council and it turns out he is buried in an unmarked grave in Bolton on Dearne. He is in the same plot as Richard Henry Lewis (father in law) who died in 1944 and George Shaw (brother) who died 1947 age 51. I had no idea about 'George' so I orderd his death cert and got a match. The informant was S Shaw [brother] living at the same address where my father and grandfather were both born.

I've tried searching for possible other births on freebmd, but I'm getting no results at all. Can anybody help.

Regards, Stephen

Hi Stephen
Try these Shaws in FamilySearch if you haven't tried there before:
https://familysearch.org/search/record/results?count=20&query=%2Bsurname%3AShaw~%20%2 Brecord_country%3AEngland%20%2Brecord_subcountry%3A%22England%2CYorkshire%22%20%2Bbir th_place%3ABarnsley~%20%2Bbirth_year%3A1882-1902~%20%2Bfather_givenname%3ARichard~%20 %2Bfather_surname%3AShaw~%20%2Brecord_type%3A(0%203%206%207)

or try a few combinations of places and forenames for Shaws at : http://www.freereg.org.uk/

I sometimes find clues by just searching Google with the name in quotes and words like family tree, genealogy, ancestors, eg. "Samuel Shaw", Barnsley, Bolton, Richard, family genealogy.

Happy exploration!

Cheers, Kay

Hi Stephen

The 1901 Census RG13/2760, Folio 120, page 10 has Samuel Shaw (9) and George Shaw (5) as sons of Richard Shaw (39) and Emily Taylor Shaw (37) in Brierley Hill, Staffordshire. Richard was a coal miner, and there were 5 other children. Brierley Hill was in the Stourbridge Registration District. Richard Shaw married Emily Taylor Jan-Mar 1888, Stourbridge 6c 153, so the eldest child may be from an earlier marriage. One of the other children was Sarah (13). Samuel Shaw's birth is Jan-Mar 1892, Stourbridge 6c 221. George was born in Bromley, Staffordshire, according to the Census, and I can't find it so I can't identify the correct Registration District for him. Emily Shaw (43) died Jan-Mar 1907, Stourbridge 6c 136. In 1911 Samuel was in Parkgate, Rawmarsh, as brother in law of Samuel Holden (22) whose wife was Sarah (23). Samuel Holden married Sarah Shaw Jul-Sep 1909, Rotherham 9c 1164. Younger siblings Herbert and Emily Shaw were inmates in a (workhouse?) school in Upper Swinford in Worcestershire in 1911. I haven't found George so far, or what happened to Richard. I hope this is the correct family.

Regards

Stan
