Places are key to identifying people and we have over 30,000 places in more than 150 countries on Red1st
Place names are often common across counties, states and countries so we aim to be as specific as possible.
20,000 places have been pinpointed by our members
If you know better, to pinpoint a Place go to Administration > Places. Click on the Edit button. Click on the Show/hide clickable map button. Click the Search button. This will try to locate the place on a map if not you will need to find it ** THEN Page down and choose a Place level. Then Save and your done!
** the Search may not find a Place if our description is misspelt, or it no longer exists, or is just wrong? in which case, leave it or try to correct it, but be careful because it updates all people connected to that place!

Hi Adrian

I have re-started identifying the locations of Churches. I had a look at various All Saints Churches. All Saints Church, Huntingdon, is the same as the one already identified as All saints & St John, Huntingdon. All Saints Church, Adlingfleet, is the same as All Saints, Adlingfleet, which I have now identified. All saints Churchyard, Darfield, Barnsley, surrounds All Saints Church, Darfield, Barnsley, so should have the same location reference. The name All saints Church, Holme, Yorkshire is a little ambiguous, but on checking GENUKI it appears that only Holme upon Spalding Moor of all the Parishes in Yorkshire has a Church called All Saints, so I have given that Church's location. If you think that place is correct for the tree from which it came, it might be helpful to expand the place name to the full name. I will have a look at some more Churches soon.

Regards

Stan

When I am inserting Place names in the details of BDM for an individual I notice that an incorrect place name pops up as an alternative:

"Parkes, New South Wales, Australia"

IS NOT

"Parkes, Western Sydney, NSW, Australia"

Parkes is a TOWN in Western NSW and NOT a suburb of Sydney. If you were told to drive to Sydney to find "Parkes" you would be quite miffed about the detour- several hundred kilometres West of the coast, over the Blue Mountains & off into the dusty plains! It's farming country out there plus the site of a lot of old gold mines where early settlers, including mine, went to try and make their fortunes. Western Sydney is no gold mine!

Cheers

Thanks Kay. That's corrected, happy to receive corrections to our mistakes (in fact you can access Place names to do this yourself). Regards Adrian
