- John & Rose were living in their own home at the top of Rata St at the time of Nellie's birth.She was named after the wife of Mr Mackie a crippled man who had worked in the Spinley Engineering Foundry,and lived out his final years with the Spinleys.Nellie worked as a waitress and assistant cook at Parakai Springs at Craigwell and Hinemoa House during the period 1933-1934. .She also accompanied her Grandma Spinley around the family in the early 30's after Chas H died.

The monthly meeting of the Mothers' Union was held in the Parish Hall, Helensville, last week. The speaker was Miss A. G. Spencer, Auckland's provincial secretary of the British and Foreign Bible Society. Mrs. Parsons (president) introduced the speaker and presentid a beautiful bouquet of violets to her from the Mothers' Union. Miss Spencer gave a brief account of the society's work in making the Bible available to all nations. There were, she said. 10.000 branches established throughout the world and 105 Bible houses. Miss Spencer attended the annual meeting of the society in London last year, when one of the speakers was Lord Bledisloe. Mrs. Spence (secretary, Helensville branch) was also present and members of the League of Mothers. Waimauku. Afternoon tea was served, the hostesses being Mesdames Cairns. Ellis. Osman, Laurence, Beagle, Downer and Miss McDonald. A bridge afternoon was given by the president (Mrs. Ellett) recently in aid of funds for the croquet club and visitors were welcomed by the hostess at her residence. The highest scorers in bridge were Mrs. Brock (first) and Mrs. Cairns (second). Both prizes were donated by Mrs Dwerryhouse, a member of the club.
