Notes |
- According to Dennis..
My great-grandfather, Richard Evander Jenkyns, was the son of Charles Ivan
Jenkyns (b. abt. 1830, Essex County, England), and Elizabeth Drury. We have
not been able to find the death records of Charles. When visiting the Brooks
Cemetery in Vineland Township, a grave adjacent to the final resting place
of William H. Jenkyns is that of "Mother" Elizabeth M. Lisk (1840-1906).
Elizabeth may have been the [remarried] wife of Charles, we're still
following-up on this. Also, we don't know if Charles actually came to the
United States. It's possible that Elizabeth came here with her children,
along with a number of Charles' direct and extended family.
Could Richard have been referring to Charles Watson JENKYNS born 1828 Essex whose first wife was Elizabeth HUTCHISON.
We know that Elizabeth M Lisk(referred to by Dennis (1840-1906) was the daughter of William P JENKYNS & Susanna SMITH
Notes from Kevin JENKYNS May 2008
Charles son, Richard Evander Jenkyns came the Denver, Colorado via Virginia City, Nevada, as he no longer wanted to be a farmer and dreamed of being a railroad engineer. The family is still represented in Denver. Richard's son LeMond Evander Jenkyns, was also a railroader. His son, LeMond Leonard Jenkyns, was quite an accomplished artist and headed the art department for Sears & Roebuck here much of his life. His son, Leonard Martin Jenkyns, was a banker for much of his life and is still working as a living history actor/speaker. He has portrayed a wide variety of historical persons over much of North America and has appeared in several films for the Corporation for Public Broadcast. Leonard Martin Jenkyns had two sons of which I am one.
All of this family are interred at Riverside Cemetery in Denver Colorado. The rest of the family, and there is quite a lot, are also in Denver at Fairmont Cemetary. At Riverside the children are interred each with their heads at the foot of an obelisk with their various particulars. The stone used was the common soft white stone and makes reading the obelisk very difficult. The parents and adult children are buried on either side of a granite monument. Men on one side and the women on the other. This can be fairly well read and I have included a picture of each side of those as well.
